Artificial Foods are not the Nutritional Equivalent, are your vitamins the same?

Here’s a product for people who know in their hearts this is true and wish there was something they could do about it.

Artificial Foods Are Not the Nutritional
Equivalent of the Real Foods They Replace

However the labels often claim they are.

The picture above shows two rats from the same litter 6 weeks after birth.
The one on the left was raised on nothing but eggs from birth
while the one on the right was raised on nothing but Eggbeaters.

Do they look like they were raised on nutritionally equivalent foods?
Eggbeaters were advertised as having the taste and nutrition of farm fresh eggs.
Although, the comparison chart on the box showed there were more vitamins and
minerals in the Eggbeaters than in real eggs, what conclusion do you draw—

Health Care Professionals Speak Out

Health Care Professionals Speak Out

FROM CHRISTOPHER SCOTT, M.D., Saskatoon:
“Supplements are absolutely crucial due to the quality of our soil and food today. There are a lot of different supplements available on the market, but labels do not accurately reflect contents. Over the past ten years I have been using Shaklee supplements for personal use, as well as confidently recommending them to my patients.”

FROM LINDA RODRIQUEZ, M.D., Pediatrician
“For over 19 years Shaklee has been a blessing for me, my family, and my patients who have all benefited from scientifically proven products for quality health and healthy living. Our food today is so deficient in nutrients because of what we have done to it, it is no longer the same food that Mother Nature offered to us. For my fellow physicians who are looking into incorporating nutrition in their practice, I encourage you to consider using Shaklee’s quality health products that you can trust and recommend with full confidence.”

FROM KATHY WICKENS, Chiropractor, Perth, ON
“Patients get results with Shaklee! There is a definite difference in the holding patterns for chiropractic adjustments for patients taking Shaklee supplements.”

FROM CHARLENE DAY, Registered Nutritional Consultant, Toronto, ON
“I have been in practice for over 26 years and have used many brands of supplements, including Professional brands. About 7 years ago, I was given information about the Shaklee Corporation. I was impressed when I read that over 80 research studies and articles about Shaklee products were published in prestigious nutritional and medical journals. Wanting the best for my clients, I started recommending Shaklee supplements. I was amazed at the results. My clients experienced a level of wellness far exceeding anything I had experienced in the previous 19 years.”

FROM NEIL PAGETT, M.D., Internal Medicine
“Supplements make sense. You have to have good double-blind, peer-reviewed clinical studies in order to evaluate them. As a medical professional, that’s the only thing I will listen to. Except for Shaklee, I am not aware of any company that does on-going, in depth studies. Shaklee is the only company I can professionally recommend.”

FROM RICK MEDORA, Chiropractor, Kingston, ON
“The most trusted name in clinical science is Shaklee.” A Pharmacist tells why he takes Shaklee and only Shaklee! I thought you might be interested in this e-mail.

I asked my friend, Harry Shurley, a pharmacist, why he took Shaklee vitamins when he could get others, as samples, for free. Here is his reply..... Why do I take Shaklee vitamins? From a pharmacist’s view you have to look at the clinical research that is done by Shaklee.

Mrs. Lindley and I are writing a book on prenatal nutrition——not quite complete——and we requested clinical studies from the makers of prenatal vitamins and NO major company (except Shaklee) could provide us with any studies! Also, as you know, the Shaklee vitamins are natural as opposed to the synthetic prenatal vitamins available in drug stores. The makers of those prenatal vitamins stress the amount of folic acid in them, which is 1 mg . Because they have 1 mg of folic acid they have to be on prescription because folic acid can mask pernicious anemia, but if you look at the prenatal vitamins they have very few of the other vitamins and most leave out biotin completely.

It is funny that you ask me this question because a few weeks ago I had a nurse call in for some prenatal vitamins and I asked her what was the best prenatal vitamin and she said, “I don’t know.” So I asked her how did they determine what brand of vitamin to give to the patients and she said, “Whatever they can tolerate”. There are so many reasons why I take Shaklee over the vitamins I could get from pharmaceutical companies. I don’t have time to explain all, but the main reason is because the Shaklee vitamins produce results!

Doubting Thomas Gets Amazing Results

A fantastic testimony sent in by Marceil from one of her members.

Subject: Fw: Doubting Thomas Gets Amazing Results

Dear Pam:

I am astounded! And so is my Dental Hygienist and Dentist who have been treating me for severe periodontal gum disease for the past 2 or 3 years!

As you know I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2001. I started taking some pretty heavy-duty medications to treat the Parkinson's Disease beginning in 2002, and added two more medications to my daily regime in the Spring of 2003.

About 6 months later, (this would be 6 months ago), I noticed my gum disease had worsened significantly as did my Dentist and Hygienist.

I also started getting boils around my face and in my ears at the same time. Nothing I did to address these problems seemed to help. I was really becoming concerned because I knew that these problems were a pretty good indicator of the general status of my health.

Because of my concern, I started researching Parkinson's Disease, medications, and all the possible ramifications they have on one's health on reputable medical websites. I was astounded to learn that Parkinson's disease, and Parkinson's disease medications, depletes the body of essential nutrients and hormones like CoEnzyme Q10. In fact I learned that preliminary study by the medical research community shows that CoEnzyme Q10 slows the progression of Parkinson's Disease.

It was suggested that it is possible that people who develop Parkinson's Disease DO NOT have enough of it in their system and that's why they developed PD. I also learned that a lack of it in one's system can possibly cause periodontal disease, but the medical community is saying that "further study" is needed to prove it, but preliminary studies are indicating it to be true
Out of sheer desperation I CALLED YOU!

We have been friends from early childhood and I trust your judgment and opinion on almost any issue! But when it came to food supplements and mega-doses of vitamins I THOUGHT YOU WERE CRAZY!

Interestingly enough, I DID NOT have a problem taking any pill my doctor prescribed at that drop of a hat, WITHOUT QUESTION!

This time I really listened to you and started on a basic regime of fiber, CoEnzymeQ10, Soy Protein Drink, Citriboost, Calcium (I still get this at my drugstore - sorry!!!!!), and of course Vita Lea (which I'd been taking for 3 or 4 months at this point).

I started this regime about 4 or 5 weeks ago. I was sure I was the biggest fool around at this point and didn't tell too many folks what I was doing!

Well, Pam, I had my 4 month periodontal dental appointment today. The periodontal disease has improved significantly, to say the least! To make a long story short, my hygienist said "in 16 years I have NEVER seem such dramatic improvement in a patient! I am absolutely ASTOUNDED. And the only thing I've done differently is adding supplements and CoEnzyme Q10 to my diet!

She is so impressed that she is going to write a letter to my neurologist at Mayo Clinic, telling him of her findings since I've started Shaklee supplements. We both thought it would be a good idea as we were afraid if I were the only one to tell him of the improvement he would claim it was "placebo" effect probably, which I, myself, would have done 3 months ago!

My Dentist, when he saw the improvement upon examining me, said "all I can say is the improvement is astounding and dramatic - whatever you are doing keep it up. You may have noted already he was very cautious to not say any more than that...................................and this, too, is how I would have said it 3 short months ago, if I were in his shoes and being a Doctor!

I also need to note that with the exception of a five day period when I was on vacation (and didn't take my supplements with me!) THAT I HAVE NOT HAVE ONE BOIL! My family and I went to Toronto in March, and because I had to take so many VIALS of Parkinson's medications with me over the border, I thought it prudent not to take my supplements (especially white powdery stuff in baggies!) across the border. On the fourth day without taking them, I developed TWO boils! I don't have to be a Scientist to figure out what this means. My Shaklee regime is WORKING!

Can you ever forgive me for not trusting you on this issue (and thinking some pretty unkind things as I said above)?

Thanks, Dear Friend, for giving me some hope!
I love you!
Colette

The Illusion of Disease - Feed the Body Fairly

Dr. Shaklee was way before his time. He use to say, "Disease is just another fancy name for mal-nutrition". Looks like his thoughts are coming to life with this article sent to me by a friend.

The Illusion of Disease
by Mike Adams

There is a curious tendency in conventional medicine to label a set of symptoms as a disease. For example, I recently spotted a poster touting a new drug for osteoporosis. It was written by a drug company and it said this: "Osteoporosis is a disease that causes weak and fragile bones."

The poster went on to say that you need a particular drug to counteract this "disease."
Yet the language is all backward. Osteoporosis is not a disease that causes weak bones. Osteoporosis is the name given to a diagnosis of weak bones. In other words, the weak bones happened first, and then the diagnosis followed.

Another drug company defines osteoporosis as "the disease that causes bones to become thinner." Again, the cause and effect are reversed. And that's how drug companies want people to think about diseases and symptoms: First you "get" the disease, then you are "diagnosed" just in time to take an expensive new drug for the rest of your life.

But it's all hogwash. There is no such disease as osteoporosis. It's just a name for a pattern of symptoms that indicate you've let your bones get fragile. And to treat it, western doctors will give you prescriptions for drugs that claim to make your bones less brittle.

We should really call it Brittle Bones Disease, and describe the treatment in plain language - exercise, vitamin D, mineral supplements with calcium , natural sunlight, and the avoidance of substances like soft drinks, white flour, and added sugars, which strip away bone mass.

Diabetes is another condition given a complex name that puts its solution out of reach of the average patient. Type 2 diabetes isn't technically a disease. It's just a natural metabolic side effect of consuming refined carbohydrates and added sugars in large quantities without engaging in regular physical exercise. The name "diabetes" is meaningless to the average person. It should be called Excessive Sugar Disease. If it were called Excessive Sugar Disease, the solution to it would be rather apparent.

Cancer is another disease named after its symptom. To this day, most doctors and patients still believe that cancer is a physical thing: a tumor. In reality, a tumor is only a side effect of cancer, not its cause. A tumor is simply a physical manifestation of a cancer pattern that is expressed by the body.

When a person "has cancer," what they really have is a sluggish or suppressed immune system. And that would be a far better name for the disease: Suppressed Immune System Disorder.
If cancer were actually called that, it would seem ridiculous to try to cure it by cutting out tumors and destroying the immune system with chemotherapy. These are the two most popular treatments for cancer, and they do nothing to support the patient's immune system or prevent future occurrences. That's exactly why most people who undergo chemotherapy or the removal of tumors end up with yet more cancer down the road.

The cure for cancer already exists, and it's found in every human body. Your body kills cancer cells as a routine daily task, and it has done it thousands of times in your lifetime.
All we have to do is stop poisoning our bodies with cancer-causing chemicals and start feeding ourselves the materials our bodies need to beat chronic disease. Instead of searching for new technological cures, our money and time would be better spent making people aware of the existing cures and prevention strategies available right now.

Here's another example: high cholesterol. Conventional medicine says that high cholesterol is caused by a chemical imbalance in the liver, the organ that produces cholesterol. Thus the treatment is drugs (statin drugs) that inhibit the liver's production of cholesterol. Upon taking these drugs, the high cholesterol (the "disease") is regulated.

But the fatal flaw in this approach is once again evident: The symptom is not the cause of the disease. There is another cause, one that is routinely ignored by conventional medicine, doctors, drug companies, and even patients. The root cause of high cholesterol is primarily dietary. A person who eats foods that are high in saturated fats and hydrogenated oils will inevitably produce more bad cholesterol. It's simple cause and effect, not some bizarre behavior by the liver.

If the disease were accurately named, it would be called Fatty Food Choice Disease. That would make more sense to people. And the obvious solution to the disease would be to choose foods that aren't so fatty. Of course, that may be a bit of an oversimplification, since you have to distinguish between healthy fats and unhealthy fats. But at least the name would give patients a better idea of what's actually going on.

Outside the United States, the names of diseases in other languages (such as Chinese) more accurately describe their actual causes. In western medicine, however, the name of the disease obscures the root cause. That makes all diseases sound far more complex and mysterious than they really are.

That's a shame, because the treatments and cures for virtually all chronic diseases are actually quite simple and can be described in plain language. Preventing and reversing these diseases only requires language that describes things like making different food choices, getting more natural sunlight, drinking more water, engaging in regular physical exercise, avoiding specific toxins, supplementing your diet, and so on.

There is a degree of arrogance in the language of western medicine, and this arrogance propagates the separation between doctors and their patients. Separation never results in healing. In order to create healing, we must bring together healers and patients by using plain language that real people understand and that real people can act upon.

There's a great deal of ego invested in the medical community, and they sure don't want to make health sound attainable to the average person. Making the language of disease complicated keeps it out of reach of the public.

But health is attainable by every single person. It isn't rocket science. It's not complex. And it doesn't require a prescription. Health is easy, it is straightforward, and it is direct. And, for the most part, it is available free of charge if you invoke the healing power of sunlight, pure water, stress reduction, exercise, and healthy food choices.

Setting the Record Straight on Vitamin E

Setting the Record Staight on Vitamin E

A study just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association is receiving media attention. Vitamin E is in the news, and we know that you may be hearing questions from your customers. It is easy to become confused by headlines that present an unbalanced picture of study results.

The authors of this study, called “HOPE-TOO,” theorize that Vitamin E may increase the risk for heart failure. However, the Council for Responsible Nutrition and other scientific experts, including Jeffrey Blumberg, Chief of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at Tufts University, member of Shaklee's Scientific Advisory Board, and widely recognized expert on Vitamin E, disagree with these conclusions. The study was conducted with a population whose health was already compromised, and who were taking prescription medicines, making it impossible to clearly distinguish the effect of Vitamin E. Even the authors of the study have admitted that the results “cannot be confirmed at this time by other trials,” and that the unexpected results “may be due to chance.”

The March 16, 2005, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association published a study with negative results regarding vitamin E. The Council for Responsible Nutrition and other scientific experts disagree with the conclusions of the study, which used participants who were elderly with serious pre-existing medical conditions or diseases. The preponderance of the scientific and medical data continues to support the efficacy and safety of vitamin E for the general population.

Why the study results are questionable

The statistical analysis applied in the study was unbalanced. The potential for positive effects of Vitamin E on reduction of lung cancer was discounted by the study authors. On the other hand, a less stringent statistical analysis appears to have been applied to the data suggesting potentially harmful outcomes for vascular disease.

Study participants were already at high risk. This study investigated individuals with an average age over 70, with pre-existing vascular disease, risk factors for vascular disease and/or diabetes. Data from this type of study cannot reliably be used to determine what's good for the general population.

Study participants were using powerful prescription medications along with Vitamin E -the effects of Vitamin E alone were not tested. All subjects were taking some drug or combination of drugs (beta blockers, antiplatelet agents, lipid-lowering agents, diuretics, calcium channel blockers). In HOPE TOO all subjects were recommended for ramipril, an ACE inhibitor (angiotensin converting enzyme), and it appears that all subjects were taking ramipril plus one or more of the above-listed drugs.

The authors admit that the study results could be due to chance. Indeed the results were unexpected and have not been confirmed by other trials at this time. Even the National Cancer Institute (NCI) stated, "The study was not large enough to determine if vitamin E could prevent specific cancers." NCI also state that they "place the highest priority on the safety of participants in our clinical trials" and will continue to conduct multiple intervention trials to investigate vitamin E for possible reduction in cancer incidence.

The Forum on the Safety and Therapeutic Benefits of Vitamin E and Antioxidants at the University of Southern California, held last month, was attended by scientists and researchers in the field of supplementation, including Shaklee Health Scientists. At this conference, the country's top antioxidant researchers affirmed the health benefits of Vitamin E and will issue a consensus statement in an upcoming issue of the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition on this conclusion.

There are more than 1,000 studies that support the safe and efficacious use of Vitamin E supplements, including several studies that were cited in the JAMA article. Research studies on Vitamin E supplements have linked the antioxidant to numerous health benefits including reduced progression of advanced age-related macular degeneration, reduced occurrence of cataracts, slowing the progression of Alzheimer's disease, slower progression of atherosclerosis, lower incidence of non-fatal myocardial infarction, and reduced incidence of upper respiratory infection, to name just a few.

What should you do?

Continue to use vitamin E as you always have, and promote it to your customers and potential customers, based on the overwhelming data supporting the safety and effectiveness of vitamin E. The scientific and clinical data shows well-established benefits of Vitamin E. Supplementation with vitamins, including Vitamin E, makes sense in support of a healthy lifestyle, and for people who desire nutritional insurance for the gaps left unfilled by the typical diet.

And for additional expert information about the safety of vitamin E, see the Council for Responsible Nutrition website at: www.crnusa.org/vitaminEissafe.html

High Blood Pressure, Gout, Diverticulitis, then borderline Diabetes.

High Blood Pressure, Gout, Diverticulitis, then borderline Diabetes.

I would like to share a Shaklee health testimonial with you about my husband, Bob.

My husband's health was terrible for nearly 5 years. He worked at GM under stress so bad, that he nearly died of a bleeding ulcer from all the aspirin he was taking. Every word he said was, "I don't feel good." He slept, ate, and worked, and had no energy. He had to push himself to do most everything except sleep on the couch watching TV. He had high blood pressure, gout, diverticulitis, then borderline diabetes.

I got phone calls from his co-workers who were worried about his health. Yvonne Walker had told me about Shaklee but I didn't listen. Something she said must have clicked because I did get Vita-Lea and gave it to Bob. Three days later, he said it (Shaklee) wasn't working. When I asked if he was taking it, he admitted he wasn't!

Ten months later he has lots of energy and he feels good. This summer he accomplished many projects he's wanted to do for the last 16 years here on our small farm. He is surprised that he has stuck to all the supplements I introduced to the both of us. He takes his Shaklee faithfully and now has started the I Love Dieting with me.

When he tells me how good he feels I thank God. Everyone who has known him can't get over the change in Bob, and many have made comments about his health improvement.C. FrankImlay City, MI
